The Richard Huish College Corporation has determined that it should have a membership of up to twenty members at any given time. Within this membership there is provision for two student members, two staff members and two parent members. Of the remaining members, four are nominated by the Richard Huish College Foundation to serve as Foundation Members. Other members do not have a specific category attached to their membership, and serve as ‘members’.
Student, parent and staff governors are all appointed by the constituencies which they represent and this is done by secret ballot. Student governors have a fixed term of appointment of one year; all other governors are appointed for a period of four years.
Vacancies for parent governors are always advertised on the College website and also via a letter to the home address. Ballot papers are also sent to the home address. If you require further information about what becoming a parent governor involves, please get in touch with the Clerk to the Corporation.
Student governors are elected at the time of Student Council elections. Students will be given further information about this process once they have started their studies at Huish. Elections usually take place in January or February of each year. Becoming a student governor is an exciting opportunity requiring considerable commitment. The Clerk to the Corporation can provide further information about this exciting role.
Vacancies for other governors arise from time to time and are always advertised on the College website. The advertisement will give details of the kind of skills that the governors are seeking when they fill any vacancy. If you are interested in becoming a governor, you can contact the Clerk to the Corporation at any time for further information about potential opportunities and to learn more about the role. There is more information about the appointments process contained in the Code on Appointments.
