Human Biology is presented through the use of work related contexts in the caring and biomedical professions.

Why should I choose Human Biology?

The unique approach of learning through work related contexts in this subject makes it unique.

It will build upon topics you have learnt at GCSE and present them by referring to their particular medical applications

You will also be introduced to some of the new advances made in the field such as cell therapies and the imaging methods in the diagnosis of cancer

Human Biology is a practical subject so you will develop experimental skills

What will I study?

Topics studies in the first year include:

  • Blood
  • The circulatory system
  • Gas exchange
  • Growth
  • Development and disease
  • Foetal development
  • Immunisation

The A2 covers topics such as energy, reproduction and populations, which cover topics as diverse as improving athletics performance and IVF

The final module – Genetics, Control and Ageing – investigates diabetes, the inheritance of genetic disease, the effects of drugs on the brain and the managing of the ageing process
