In recent years the mass media have become an important focus for exploration by students in an increasingly media saturated world.
The course offers students a framework through which they can study the distinctive contributions which the mass media make to their understanding and enjoyment of the world
Through a variety of approaches to the challenging media environment students will develop a critical and analytical approach to the range of media texts as well as the institutions that create and circulate them

The course requires students to study aspects of the institutions which produce their media products. Students will become familiar with new media technologies and will be instructed in the use of some of these
The course is supported by a part-time technical expert who staffs the Media workshop and teaches most of the practical aspects of the course. Students are able to participate in a timetabled video enrichment course. If you choose to make a film for your coursework, you must complete this course. There are also opportunities for student visits throughout the year. Recent visits have included New York, Hollywood and EuroDisney.
