Sociology is an exciting, dynamic subject that will develop your understanding of people and how they are affected by the world in which they live.

Why should I study Sociology?

If you enjoy class debates and want to explore social processes around you then this is the subject for you!

It is a good subject choice for those considering working in areas such as teaching, medicine, nursing or midwifery, social work, Law, the police, journalism, in fact any career that is people orientated.

What will I study?

The AS course starts with an introduction to Sociology followed by Families and Households. Following this, you will then explore the Research Process to understand the process which Sociological researchers go through. Your AS will be completed with a focused module on the Sociology of Education.

During your second year, you will look at the Mass Media which has proven to be a hugely popular module. Finally, your A Level will be completed by looking at Crime and Deviance plus Theory and Methods.

Huish Extra

In your second year there is a trip to an Eastern European country. You will have the opportunity to see how their health and education systems differ from the UK. This has proved to be a popular and worthwhile experience.
