Did you miss out on University for one reason or another?
Would you like to progress onto Higher Education?
The Access to Higher Education is a fast-track course to give you the skills you need to gain a place at university, even if you have no existing qualifications and have not been in education for some time.
If you are thinking about pursuing a career in business or a business related area (and there are many of them) but you do not have the qualifications needed to get onto a degree programme – our Access to Higher Education course could be just right for you.
This Diploma provides the opportunity for those without prior qualifications to gain the entry requirements for Higher Education courses.
It doesn’t matter what social or educational circumstances may have prevented you from achieving entry earlier in your life – this Diploma opens up the world of University degrees to anyone with the enthusiasm and commitment to work hard and achieve.
This ten-month flexible study course will give you the opportunity to gain those necessary skills and formal qualification to progress the route into completing a full degree – perhaps even staying here at Huish. You can complete your Business Degree flexibly with us. If you want to study further afield, this course is also highly-regarded by Universities across the UK.
What will you learn on this Course?
During this comprehensive programme you will be taught and supported in developing your knowledge across the widest range of contemporary business and management concepts. You will be able to practice putting the concepts into practical use, developing skills and competences that are directly transferable and usable in today’s workplace. Alongside improving your academic understanding you will also develop many employability skills – communication, report writing, presenting, and discussing/debating etc.
You will study a wide range of modern business topics, as well as undertake units that prepare you for further higher academic studies. Business topics range from marketing, business start-up, law, accounting and financial management, and HR with people management; alongside delivering creative presentations and academic research etc. Assessment is largely through regular coursework which will include writing reports, delivering presentations and constructing business plans.
Partnered with AIM Awards
What qualification will you get?
Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Access to HE Diploma (Business Studies) through Ascentis.
It is listed on the QAA and is a nationally recognised 60 credits award at Level 3.
What are my study options?
The Diploma is taught and assessed over one academic year and delivered flexibly to enable students to study alongside any working commitments. It is very beneficial, and supports the learning and development process, for participants to be working whilst studying (either in paid employment or volunteering). Where possible the College will support those who do not have access to regular work experience to find a placement.
In order to accommodate a range of working patterns, and depending upon demand, each year the College aims to provide a range of attendance options across day-time study, evening courses and weekend pathways.
Study will take place over:
- One or two days each week (9.30am to 3pm) during term time (36 weeks).
- Can be part supported by distance learning.
- Evening sessions available.
Whatever the agreed method of study, the weekly commitment outside of college is a further 6 hours of home based work.
Each and every student will have different levels of experience, knowledge and expertise and so this programme does NOT take a one-size-fits-all approach. Each candidate will undertake learning experiences and individualised levels of one-to-one support designed to meet their specific needs.
How can I finance this course?
The course is free for those who do not currently hold a full level 3 qualification (i.e. two A levels, a full BTEC Extended Diploma or an NVQ Level 3). For others the cost is £3,025, (student loans available), written off if you then complete a degree.
Of course, if you choose, you can also fund the course privately but the student loan scheme has the advantage (explained above).
Do universities recognise the Access to HE Diploma?
The Access to HE Diploma is widely recognised by UK universities, and many actively encourage applications from Access to HE students. Each year, around 20,000 Access students apply for a degree course. They go on to study a wide range of subjects including business and business related courses.
