ACCOUNTING FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE

LEVEL 2: PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
EXAMINING BOARD: AAT

Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is an internationally recognised professional accounting qualification ideal for those who want to work in the Accountancy sector or are self-employed.

The Foundation Certificate in Accounting is the introductory year, it is ideal for existing Junior/Assistant Accountants, school leavers or those with no accounting experience who are considering a career in Accounting.

After achieving this initial certificate learners typically continue on to complete Levels 3 & 4 to become fully AAT qualified.

The course is taught by qualified experienced Accountants/Tutors giving pass rates that consistently exceed the national averages – a number of units achieve 100% pass rates.

You can enrol in September.

You will attend taught sessions one day per week. Teaching is by lectures with practical examples and hands on practice.

It is recommended you complete a further 3-5 hours study at home per week and a little more in the run up to the assessment.

You will study:

  • Bookkeeping transactions (this includes business documentation, sales and purchases systems and double entry bookkeeping to trial balance)
  • Bookkeeping controls (this includes journals, control account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and suspense accounts)
  • Elements of costing (this includes types and behaviours of costs, inventory valuations, basic budgeting and variance analysis)
  • Computerised accounting (this includes gaining hands on knowledge and practice of the SAGE accounting system).

Assessments are independently managed by AAT and taken on a computer here at Huish. You must score 70% to pass and results are received the same day.

You will only need to revise for one exam at a time as each exam is sat as you finish a module.

Our pass rates are exceptional and are above national averages.

The cost of this course is £1,264 however if you are self-financing the course (rather than fees being paid by an employer) then the cost to you will be £632 (50% of the full cost) as government will fund 50% of the course cost.

If you are on national benefits or universal credit you may be eligible for free provision.

Fees include tuition, all books and training materials, practice tests and one exam attempt per subject. Resits cost £55-60.

The Advanced Learner Loan is not available for this Level 2 AAT qualification. For further information visit Finance and Bursaries.

If you do not possess a GCSE grade C/4 or above in Maths and English you may need to take a functional skills programme.

This qualification takes approximately one year to complete.

It will take approximately three years in total to complete Levels 2, 3 & 4 of the full AAT qualification.

This qualification is perfect for anyone wanting to start a long term career in Accountancy.

You can progress from Level 2 through to Level 4 AAT. Upon completion of Level 4, you will become an affiliate of AAT and eligible to apply for membership. This in turn will give exemption to the foundation components of CIMA and ACCA qualifications.
