Primary College Day
Around four hundred Year 6 primary school children enjoyed a fun filled day of activities at Richard Huish College on Monday as part of our annual Primary College Day.
The community outreach day is developed around the theme of ‘Believe In Yourself’ and aims to help young people build their confidence through participation in entertaining challenges. Activities this year included a paper dart competition, designing Greek God and Goddess flags and various sporting ventures. Pupils were supported by Huish Student Ambassadors and got to make many new friends, mixing with the children from the other schools.
The 10 schools involved were; North Curry CE Primary School, Parkfield Primary School, Lyngford Park Primary School, St George’s Catholic School, Bishop Henderson CE Primary School, Priorswood Primary School, Holway Park Community Primary School, North Town Primary School, St James Church School; and Norton Fitzwarren Church School. The event was also attended by the Taunton Tigers Basketball team mascot, who was hugely popular amongst the school children.
Entertainment was provided at lunchtime by Huish student band, Phaze 4, who performed a set of vibrant summery music which certainly got the children dancing. The band were amongst those who took part in ‘Huish Music on Tour’ earlier this month, visiting secondary schools across Somerset and Devon to create professional concerts featuring Huish bands and the schools’ own performers.
The Primary College Day concluded with certificates being awarded to one pupil from each school who had been nominated for making outstanding progress this year in one way or another.
Principal John Abbott commented “The Huish Primary College Day was a true success and it was an excellent opportunity to showcase and share our outstanding facilities and resources to the wider community and potential students of the future.”
