Sports students at Richard Huish College have once again earned their places at the Association of Colleges National Championships after huge success in the regional competitions. This year’s championships will be held at Nottingham University over the weekend of 20th-22nd April 2018, where thirty-one Huish students will compete across Cross Country, Men’s Hockey, Badminton, Women’s Basketball, Squash and Table Tennis.

This year’s regional competitions took place during November with the majority of events taking place at Plymouth Marjon University. Throughout regionals over 130 students competed across ten different sports with five teams qualifying from their respective disciplines.

The Men’s Hockey team fought off some tough competition from colleges around the South West to progress to the national finals for the fourth time in five years. While the Women’s Basketball team who also qualified will be making their debut at the prestigious tournament.

There were individual successes in the Cross Country, Table Tennis, Badminton and Squash where runner Chris Brown continued his outstanding local form to outshine his competitors and qualify for the Cross Country Running. While also gaining their places were Rachel Tsang (Table Tennis), Jennifer Poole (Badminton) and Megan Beale (Squash).

Connor Sidley-Adams, Sports Development Officer, said: ‘We are extremely proud of all those who took part in the AoC regional championships, and we are pleased to have so many qualify to represent the College at the National Championships.’
