Huish Business School offers a range of courses to suit different needs and circumstances. We have
a variety of computer or IT-based courses that differ in both complexity and delivery time. Please

Beginners Introduction to Computers

This course has been developed in-house and gives a gentle introduction to using computers for
absolute beginners.

The course covers:

• An Introduction to computers
• Exploring the internet
• Word processing

Start date: Anytime on a rolling programme
Time: Flexible
Cost: £120.00

ITQ1 (CLAIT)

This is a beginner’s course that follows on from the introduction to computers. It leads to a
certificate at Level 1. The learner works through a booklet with a tutor’s help to build up confidence
thorough the completion of tasks.

The course covers:

• File management
• Word processing
• Spreadsheets
• Presentations

Start date: Anytime on a rolling programme
Time: Flexible
Duration: Approx 9 months
Cost: £80.00 per module

ECDL

This course has recently been updated to bring it more in line with current work practices. It is
delivered on-line using Thirdforce – a very effective computer-based learning system. There is
a tutor on hand throughout to offer assistance and mark your work. The course is split into two
components – ‘Essentials’ and ‘Extra’:

Essentials (level 1)

• IT user fundamentals
• Security for IT users
• Using e-mail and the internet

Each module except Improving Productivity has a 45 minute on-line test that is computer marked
straight away. Improving Productivity combines what has been learnt in the other three modules
with an online, scenario based exercise lasting one hour.

Extra (level 2)

• Improving productivity

ECDL Advanced

This is a level 3 qualification which is gained by successfully passing 3 out of a choice of 4 Office
applications (listed below) plus the mandatory unit ‘Improving Productivity.’ The course introduces
complex skills that would be used by an advanced user. If you choose to take all 4 applications
you gain the ECDL Expert status at no extra cost.

Cost: £120.00 per module which includes books, registration, exam and certification fees (Improving Productivity is free)
