Huish Sport has a high profile and reputation for success, providing a huge range of both team and individual sports and activities to students of all abilities. Training for most sports takes place on Monday afternoons and Friday mornings with competitive fixtures on Wednesday afternoons against other schools and colleges across the country. There are also opportunities to train at lunchtimes and before and after college. All students wishing to participate in the Huish Sport programme have it scheduled into their timetables so that they are free to train and compete in whichever sports they choose without it affecting or interfering with their academic studies. Over 400 students currently participate in the Huish Sport programme, across 19 sports with both past and current students and teams achieving local, regional and national success. The Huish Sport team also endeavour to offer additional teams/and or further sports where there is a demand. Another major aspiration of Huish Sport is to continue the expansion of student opportunities in coaching, leadership and officiating to help build their skills and experience.

Pre-Season Training Camp – Every year, on the Thursday and Friday before students return to college from their summer holidays, Huish Sport hold pre-season training camps in Men’s Football, Women’s Football, Men’s Rugby, Men’s Hockey, Women’s Hockey, Netball, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball. For the new intake, it provides a great opportunity to meet their new team mates, their coach and other students before they start at college. For returning 2nd years it is a good chance to welcome their new team-mates into their sport, cement their places in the squads for next year, and shake off the summer cobwebs in preparation for a flying start to the new season. Over 250 students take part each year, in what always proves to be a fantastic way to kick start the Huish Sport year.
BCS National Championships – Over the autumn term, teams and individuals from the college get the opportunity to compete in the BCS SW Qualifiers, where they compete in their sport in a tournament format against the other colleges in the South West region. If the students manage to win this tournament, they qualify as representatives of the South West region to compete against the winning teams from the other 8 regions in England, Scotland and Wales in the BCS National Championships. This is a fantastic event, traditionally held at Loughborough University, where over 2000 competitors from around Britain come to together to compete across 15 sports to help there region win points for the ultimate prize of the Wilkinson Sword – awarded each year to the winning region. Richard Huish has traditionally done very well in this competition, with Huish students making up a large percentage of the South West team, and many returning home with medals each year.

Huish Sports Dinner – In May each year, Huish Sport host the annual sports dinner. The event is open to all students who have competed for the college during the year. Staff, students and coaches come together to celebrate the years sporting achievements with a meal, speeches, photos, and video footage of the teams in action over the year. The evening is finished with the main awards for the year, including the ‘Huish 20’, which is awarded to the top 20 upper sixth students for their contribution to Huish Sport over their two years at the college.
