Governor Vacancy

Further enhance our community by offering your skills and experience

Would you like to play a key role in helping Richard Huish College enhance its position as a high quality provider?

Richard Huish College, based in Taunton, is a Beacon college designated “outstanding” by Ofsted. Huish is one of the best sixth form colleges in the country and has been consistently ranked in the top 5% of colleges in the country for added value. We have an enviable reputation in the local area built upon a long history of excellence.

We offer a wide range of A Level courses, BTECs and Apprenticeships to students aged 16 to 19, across Taunton and Somerset. The College delivers an extensive range of accounting, business and professional courses for adults. Alongside this we also offer degree courses in partnership with the University of St Mark and St John, Plymouth.

Why do we need Governors?

The governor role is concerned with driving issues at strategic level. You will bring an outside perspective on the running of the College, to ask the what, why, how and when of our Senior Leadership Team. Our skills as educators will be complemented by your skills, which can originate from a wide range of professions and life experiences.

Governor Vacancies

We are seeking innovative and dynamic individuals who will share in the College’s vision and help us deliver our ambitions with skills, experience and expertise in any of the following areas, with local employer representation:

• General financial management

• Corporate governance

• Commercial law

• Estates  management

• The wider educational sector

Can you help us make a difference?

The governor role is voluntary, although travel expenses will be reimbursed. The Board holds around five scheduled meetings a year with additional committee meetings. These meetings are generally held at our Taunton campus between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Additional attendance may be required at training sessions and College events.

What’s in it for you?

We will of course be drawing on your talents and experience to the benefit of the College but there are many things that you will gain from becoming a governor. Not only will you feel a sense of making a difference to the community but your responsibilities will require you to absorb a wide range of issues, some outside of your current experiences and could be a positive step for longer term career development. The College is committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity and diversity.
