Following a string of successful sell-out productions including ‘Our House’ and ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, Huish are excited to announce their next theatre production – The Wiz!
The Wiz is a re-telling of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, with African American cultural influences. It tells the story of Dorothy, a schoolteacher, who ends up in the urban land of Oz and seeks help returning to Manhattan from friends she meets along the way. The musical’s themes focus on self-discovery, empowerment, and the importance of home, all set against a backdrop of soulful music and dynamic dance.
First appearing on Broadway in 1974, a year later the production won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical. A film adaptation was released a few years later, which has since become a cult classic.
Huish’s production of The Wiz will star the following students: Imogen B. as Dorothy, Millicent M-H. as The Lion, Charlie P. as The Wiz, Abaigh M. as Glinda, Evan R. as The Scarecrow, Jenny L. as The Tin Man, Maddy C. as Addaperle, AJ N. as Evillene and Erin R. as Aunt Em.
Supporting these characters will be a wide range of students in the Performing Arts EnRICH programme including an ensemble made up of over thirty students, as well as a live band and those assisting with sound, lighting, costumes and set design.
Stagecraft sessions and rehearsals in acting, singing and dancing are well underway – the whole college is excited to see the final result.
The production will have a four-night run from Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th February 2025. Don’t miss out on tickets, which can be purchased here.
