John Abbott

I was Principal of Richard Huish College from January 2013 to August 2020, and have worked at Huish since 2003 having previously been Assistant Principal and Faculty Director. I have worked in Further Education since 1995 and I am passionate about the impact it can have on everybody’s lives, but particularly young people.

Emma Fielding

I began my career in education as an Educational Researcher at the University of Cambridge before going on to train as a History and Sociology teacher. I have worked in the Post-16 educational sector since 2003.

Becky Flower

I studied at Royal Holloway University and graduated in Sociology and Social Policy. Appointed in 1998, after working in children’s social care, I started as a teacher of Health and Social Care and then became Course Manager of Sociology from 2001 -2010. I was then appointed Assistant Principal in 2013 and Vice Principal in September 2020.

Steve Chattell

I have worked in or around Human Resources since 2000, in a variety of sectors and in education since 2007. Over that time I’ve enjoyed working closely with curriculum teams to ensure there is a direct link between the HR function and the quality of education at the college.

Paul Lonsdale

I am a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and have been leading Finances for Richard Huish Trust since June 2016.

Laurie Morgan

I joined Huish in 2018 after a decade of teaching. Prior to teaching and after my engineering degree, I worked as an editor in the animation industry. I became Assistant Principal for English, Science and Mathematics in September 2021 before commencing my current role in September 2023.

Martin Wren

I graduated from Brunel University in 2002 with a degree in Physical Education and Geography. I have taught PE in a diverse range of secondary environments in both the UK and Europe, specialising in curriculum development and innovation. After a successful role as Quality Nominee at Huish, I accepted the position of Assistant Principal in June 2020. Alongside this role, I also champion and manage our vocational provision.

Joe Bennett

I graduated from Cardiff University in 2001 before completing a PGCE in History and teaching in secondary schools. I joined Richard Huish College as a History teacher in 2008 and in 2010, was acting Course Manager for History before becoming a Curriculum Area Manager the following year.  I was appointed Assistant Principal for English, Mathematics and Science in 2013, before becoming the Assistant Principal for Business and Creative Industries in 2021.

Lis Sheridan

I have been teaching English Language and Literature since 2004 however my greatest passion is teaching and learning across all subjects. Since 2011 I have worked on leadership groups to make sure students and teachers are inspired and empowered by their education and their careers and I joined Richard Huish College in January 2024.

Outside of Huish, I teach and do a lot of yoga, I run and hike with my dachshund Doris, I listen to too many podcasts and I am trying to learn to swim properly in the sea. I still read fiction, but now I also read a lot more history and lately ecology literature. One day I’d like to own a campsite in a wood but right now I love working here at Huish.

Richard Anderson

I joined in April 2015 and I ensure that the IT service to staff, students and the Richard Huish Trust runs efficiently with minimal network/service downtime. I also oversee the maintenance and improvement of the Huish estate.

Matt Nolan

My role is to ensure that students are supported to achieve their academic potential during their time at Huish. I manage a number of areas including Student Finance, Mental Health, Sport and our EnRICH programme as well as acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Joanne Richards

I have been working in the Health and Social care sector since 1994 and have been an assessor and internal quality assurance since 1999. I support learners through their adult skills learning journey, through workplace learning and professional development.

Paula Judge

I am a Chartered Management Accountant and qualified at Leonardo’s (formerly Westland Helicopters Ltd, Yeovil) and started teaching Accountancy to adults and managing the provision at the college a number of years ago. In the last 12 years I moved to teach A Level Accounting then A Level Business and most recently Vocational Business. I kept my hand in with accounting by being treasurer at the parent’s association my son’s schools and also on the Board for Young Somerset (a local charity).
I am delighted to be back with the adult students again and passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience Accountancy.

Laurie Morgan

James Dawson

After graduating with a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Nottingham in 2016, I completed a PGCE at the University of Bristol. Since then, I taught a mixture of Chemistry and Applied Science at Huish before taking up the role of Course Manager in 2022.

Richard Aydon

The key element to my role is in leading teaching and learning and curriculum development for Art and Photography. My role also involves monitoring and supporting the progress of students. I have worked in a variety of educational settings and have previously lead Art departments and faculties. Most recently I was Head of the Creative Faculty at a girls’ school in Jersey (Channel Islands). As well as being a practising Artist I am a keen cyclist and surfer.

Sarah Marshall

I graduated in Biology from Nottingham University and have taught A level Biology for since 2000 – and still love it! I have a Masters in Education from Bristol University.

Alison Owen

I joined the College in 2003. Previously I taught at Bristol and Kingston University and am particularly interested in the Biomedical Sciences.

Joanna Clare

I joined the College in 2017 having taught Chemistry for 10 years at both secondary and FE level. Prior to teaching, I completed a PhD in Organic Chemistry at Bristol University.

Jenny Perks

I enjoy teaching Business and in particular how the theory learnt in lessons affects us as consumers and how it relates to news and current affairs. I have worked in a variety of roles including in secondary schools and as a Manager within a Social Enterprise.

Sharon Williams

Hello, I’m Sharon Williams, the Course Manager and Teacher for Level 2 and 3 Vocational Business. I have been teaching Business for 20 years now and worked at Richard Huish College for 10 years. I’m passionate about student progression and raising aspirations for each student that I teach through utilising employer engagements and employability within the classroom.
During my spare time I enjoy travelling with friends and family and reading a good book next to a nice pool.

Samantha Desmond

I teach and manage a small but mighty community of students who, like me, are interested in all things Ancient! My particular focuses are the Roman poet Virgil, Athenian Democracy and Classical & Hellenistic Art. I am involved in spreading the word that Classical Civilisation is an option for everyone.

Ralph Ellis

I have been Course Manager for Computer Science since September 2016. My background is in Mathematics, although I have previously spent 10 years as an Educational Consultant for a technology company.

Hannah Curtis

I have taught Sociology and Psychology in a variety of Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges since graduating from Cardiff University. I am responsible for directing the Sociology and Criminology curriculum and ensuring that students are supported in their academic and personal development.

Andy Harding

I have taught Computing and IT since the early nineties. I love coding as well as the creative side such as graphics, animation and games design.

Gemma Thompson

I have been teaching Drama since 2009, I love non-naturalistic drama and creating my own devised work. I enjoy seeing students grow and develop as actors/theatre makers and use these skills in all aspects of their life.

Elizabeth Voice

I joined Richard Huish College in 1994 on my teaching practise and enjoyed it so much that I have been here ever since. Economics is a subject that is constantly changing and I really enjoy helping students to understand the application of the theory to what is happening in the news.

Anna Turnbull

I have been teaching at Huish since 2012 and enjoy using my experience of working in the Health and Social Care sector to support students. I was previously a registered Nurse, specialising in Learning Disabilities Support.

Marcus Barrett

I initially read Law, then Medieval Culture before entering teaching. As a qualified Barrister, I am fascinated by the forensic detail of English Language and delight in sharing the subject at A Level.

Jill Burton

I joined the in 1999 and still love everything about teaching here. It is a privilege to see students develop their love of literature and expand their literary horizons. In my spare time I enjoy theatre, the arts, all sorts of music, and I sing with a chamber choir. I am also very privileged to volunteer at St Margaret’s Hospice on my day off.

Richard Palmer

I joined the College in 2005 and have been a Course Manager since 2009. I really enjoy teaching this subject as it is constantly changing and is incredibly important. I love teaching students with a passion for the environment.

Sara Goddard

After teaching French and German in schools and sixth form colleges in Leicester for 25 years I returned to my native Somerset to continue teaching here at Huish. I love being challenged by students’ opinions and encouraging open discussion and creative thinking… all in the target language!

Nikki Lewis

I have wanted to teach Geography since I was 5 years old; to say I love the subject would be an understatement! I hope to pass on my love of the subject to you.

Adele Bolt

Having taught other Earth Science subjects for over 20 years I have returned to my first love …Geology!
I am super excited about teaching Geology at Huish and the field trip adventures I can take my students on.
In my free time, I can be found walking the children, cycling the many cycle routes of the SW and dancing! I happen to be a dancing geologist as I run DanceFit classes!

I have taught History at Richard Huish College since 2010. I studied History at Cardiff University and have a particular interest in Russian and British history.

Rowena Mudge

I have been teaching A Level Law for 7 years but have worked in education for the last 14. Prior to this I was a Police Officer with Avon and Somerset Police and a Road Safety Officer in Somerset, so I have lots of experience of law in the ‘real world’. Outside of college I have a husband, 3 daughters and a sausage dog called Monty who keep me occupied!  I am passionate about the Law department we have at Huish and developing your legal knowledge so hope to see you in Law very soon!

Kate Newsome

I graduated in Mathematics and Management Science from Manchester University in 2002. Ahead of joining Huish in 2023, I had taught Maths for 15 years at both secondary and FE level. I am passionate about the subject and I want students to enjoy developing their knowledge.

John Panton

I am a filmmaker and a teacher. I direct short films and music videos, and have had the honour of working with a variety of professionals including Matt Berry, Elbow, Nigel Planer, Rebecca Front and Mike Wozniak.

I have taught film and media at University and College’s for over twenty years. This includes BA Popular Culture, GCSEs/A-Levels in Film and Media Studies, alongside vocational Media programmes of study. I completed a degree in Media Arts from University of Plymouth and a Post-16 PGCE. This was followed by QTS from University of Gloucestershire and an MA in European Film Studies from University of Exeter.

I’m passionate about delivering Media education and seeing students grow in awareness about the media saturated world we live in. I’m very keen for students to make the most of career opportunities, recognising their skills within rapidly changing and expanding career paths.

Kathryn Foyle

As a cellist, pianist and singer, I teach Music and run the wide-ranging Music EnRICH programme.

Andy Wild

I manage all of the Vocational Music courses. Duties include curriculum planning, event planning and anything musical.

Mary Lockwood

I have loved studying Philosophy, Religion and Ethics since being inspired when studying Philosophy and Buddhism for my GCSEs. I pursued this passion through my own A Level and degree studies where I focused on studying Buddhism and the role of women in society and religion. In 2004 I became a Religious Studies teacher and then later Head of Department. I love classroom discussions and I always find it a real privilege to be able to talk to students and find out what they think about big ideas and concepts. It is the best thing about my job!

Adam Fox

When joining in 2021, I brought 16 years of previous leadership and management experience within PE and education. My main objectives are to make the course as enjoyable and interesting as possible, whilst helping you to realise your potential. You might see me outside of college rock climbing in Somerset, Devon & Cornwall, or at my family caravan in Cornwall over the summer holidays – so say ‘hi’ if you see me at the beach or in the water surfing!

Barrie Hall

I am a Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics and have examined for several exam boards. I joined the College in 2013 and now lead the highly experienced Physics team. I graduated from Durham University and completed a PGCE at the UCL Institute of Education. Prior to working in education I had a career in the media.

Ceri Knott

I have been Course Manager of Politics since September 2017. I relocated to the West Country from the Midlands where I had taught History and Politics at Rugby High, a girls’ grammar school, since 2003. I also oversee the student-led Politics and Debating society.

Amy Lees

I have loved Psychology since I was first introduced to the subject during my A Level studies. I am particularly interested in applied topics and the contribution of Psychology to our society. My role is to co-ordinate the curriculum and manage your progress on the course alongside your subject teachers.

Matt Morgan

My role is to ensure we offer courses of fantastic quality and provide great experiences for our students. If not with my family, you will find me coaching for Quantock Quickriders Cycling Club or fighting for points at the Welsh Classic Motocross Championship!

Raquel Munoz

Hola! I am Raquel, the Spanish teacher at Huish where I have been teaching since 2003. I am very passionate about my students learning my native language and new languages. What I love the most about being a teacher is seeing my students continue through life after college with the ability to communicate fluently in a different language.

Frankie Flood

I joined the College in February 2022, with previous experience in military leadership and management. My main objective is to deliver a course which is engaging and leads to the future success of those learners on the programme. When I’m not at the college you will find me halfway up a hill on the Mendips, or coaching and mentoring future leaders of the British Army.

Lizz Hoskins

Hello, I’m Lizz and I teach the Film Studies A Level and the Vocational Level 2 and Level 3 Media Courses here. I am a keen horror and science fiction fan, so I truly live up to my middle name, Ripley! I train calisthenics in my spare time to keep fit and love running the Cali Club enrichment here.

Thom Haines

I have been overseeing the GCSE English programme at Huish for over 10 years. During that time, I have helped hundreds of students to achieve this essential qualification. I recognise the importance of achieving a pass in GCSE English and the doors it will open for the students. I also oversee a talented team of teachers who share my passion for supporting students to achieve the qualification.
In my free time, I’m a keen runner and normally in training for my next marathon or recovering from the previous!

Kim Pritchard

I graduated from De Montfort University in 2002 with a BA (Hons) in Dance with Theatre and then completed a PGCE in Secondary Education Dance the year after. Since then I have taught in a range of schools and worked with students from Key Stage 1 to adults. I joined Huish in 2008 as a Dance Teacher before becoming Course Manager in 2011. Whilst working here I have also taught Sport and choreographed the college productions. I became Senior Progress Tutor in 2020 where my focus shifted to the pastoral and I started my current role in 2022.

Chloe Davis

Over the past 10 years, I have primarily supported vulnerable learners and those with additional needs in a range of education settings, such as mainstream primary and secondary schools, the local authority’s virtual school, as well as a forensic psychiatric setting. I have a love for sports and actively play both cricket and football on a regular basis and live locally to the college with my family and our dog, Missy. I am passionate about Learning Support and how it can be utilised in providing a ‘toolkit’ for students, regardless of their needs, to achieve and succeed here at Richard Huish College.
