I was Principal of Richard Huish College from January 2013 to August 2020, and have worked at Huish since 2003 having previously been Assistant Principal and Faculty Director. I have worked in Further Education since 1995 and I am passionate about the impact it can have on everybody’s lives, but particularly young people.

I began my career in education as an Educational Researcher at the University of Cambridge before going on to train as a History and Sociology teacher. I have worked in the Post-16 educational sector since 2003.

I studied at Royal Holloway University and graduated in Sociology and Social Policy. Appointed in 1998, after working in children’s social care, I started as a teacher of Health and Social Care and then became Course Manager of Sociology from 2001 -2010. I was then appointed Assistant Principal in 2013 and Vice Principal in September 2020.

I have worked in or around Human Resources since 2000, in a variety of sectors and in education since 2007. Over that time I’ve enjoyed working closely with curriculum teams to ensure there is a direct link between the HR function and the quality of education at the college.

I joined Huish in 2018 after a decade of teaching. Prior to teaching and after my engineering degree, I worked as an editor in the animation industry. I became Assistant Principal for English, Science and Mathematics in September 2021 before commencing my current role in September 2023.

Martin Wren

I graduated from Brunel University in 2002 with a degree in Physical Education and Geography. I have taught PE in a diverse range of secondary environments in both the UK and Europe, specialising in curriculum development and innovation. After a successful role as Quality Nominee at Huish, I accepted the position of Assistant Principal in June 2020. Alongside this role, I also champion and manage our vocational provision.

I graduated from Cardiff University in 2001 before completing a PGCE in History and teaching in secondary schools. I joined Richard Huish College as a History teacher in 2008 and in 2010, was acting Course Manager for History before becoming a Curriculum Area Manager the following year.  I was appointed Assistant Principal for English, Mathematics and Science in 2013, before becoming the Assistant Principal for Business and Creative Industries in 2021.

Lis Sheridan

I have been teaching English Language and Literature since 2004 however my greatest passion is teaching and learning across all subjects. Since 2011 I have worked on leadership groups to make sure students and teachers are inspired and empowered by their education and their careers and I joined Richard Huish College in January 2024.

Outside of Huish, I teach and do a lot of yoga, I run and hike with my dachshund Doris, I listen to too many podcasts and I am trying to learn to swim properly in the sea. I still read fiction, but now I also read a lot more history and lately ecology literature. One day I’d like to own a campsite in a wood but right now I love working here at Huish.

I joined in April 2015 and I ensure that the IT service to staff, students and the Richard Huish Trust runs efficiently with minimal network/service downtime. I also oversee the maintenance and improvement of the Huish estate.

Chloe Davis

Over the past 10 years, I have primarily supported vulnerable learners and those with additional needs in a range of education settings, such as mainstream primary and secondary schools, the local authority’s virtual school, as well as a forensic psychiatric setting. I have a love for sports and actively play both cricket and football on a regular basis and live locally to the college with my family and our dog, Missy. I am passionate about Learning Support and how it can be utilised in providing a ‘toolkit’ for students, regardless of their needs, to achieve and succeed here at Richard Huish College.

I graduated from De Montfort University in 2002 with a BA (Hons) in Dance with Theatre and then completed a PGCE in Secondary Education Dance the year after. Since then I have taught in a range of schools and worked with students from Key Stage 1 to adults. I joined Huish in 2008 as a Dance Teacher before becoming Course Manager in 2011. Whilst working here I have also taught Sport and choreographed the college productions. I became Senior Progress Tutor in 2020 where my focus shifted to the pastoral and I started my current role in 2022.

I am a Chartered Management Accountant and qualified at Leonardo’s (formerly Westland Helicopters Ltd, Yeovil) and started teaching Accountancy to adults and managing the provision at the college a number of years ago. In the last 12 years I moved to teach A Level Accounting then A Level Business and most recently Vocational Business. I kept my hand in with accounting by being treasurer at the parent’s association my son’s schools and also on the Board for Young Somerset (a local charity).

The key element to my role is in leading teaching and learning and curriculum development for Art and Photography. My role also involves monitoring and supporting the progress of students. I have worked in a variety of educational settings and have previously lead Art departments and faculties. Most recently I was Head of the Creative Faculty at a girls’ school in Jersey (Channel Islands). As well as being a practising Artist I am a keen cyclist and surfer.

Hello, I’m Sharon Williams, the Course Manager and Teacher for Level 2 and 3 Vocational Business. I have been teaching Business for 20 years now and worked at Richard Huish College for 10 years. I’m passionate about student progression and raising aspirations for each student that I teach through utilising employer engagements and employability within the classroom.
During my spare time I enjoy travelling with friends and family and reading a good book next to a nice pool.

I have been teaching A Level Law for 7 years but have worked in education for the last 14. Prior to this I was a Police Officer with Avon and Somerset Police and a Road Safety Officer in Somerset, so I have lots of experience of law in the ‘real world’. Outside of college I have a husband, 3 daughters and a sausage dog called Monty who keep me occupied!  I am passionate about the Law department we have at Huish and developing your legal knowledge so hope to see you in Law very soon!

John Panton

I am a filmmaker and a teacher. I direct short films and music videos, and have had the honour of working with a variety of professionals including Matt Berry, Elbow, Nigel Planer, Rebecca Front and Mike Wozniak.

I have taught film and media at University and College’s for over twenty years. This includes BA Popular Culture, GCSEs/A-Levels in Film and Media Studies, alongside vocational Media programmes of study. I completed a degree in Media Arts from University of Plymouth and a Post-16 PGCE. This was followed by QTS from University of Gloucestershire and an MA in European Film Studies from University of Exeter.

I’m passionate about delivering Media education and seeing students grow in awareness about the media saturated world we live in. I’m very keen for students to make the most of career opportunities, recognising their skills within rapidly changing and expanding career paths.

I have loved studying Philosophy, Religion and Ethics since being inspired when studying Philosophy and Buddhism for my GCSEs. I pursued this passion through my own A Level and degree studies where I focused on studying Buddhism and the role of women in society and religion. In 2004 I became a Religious Studies teacher and then later Head of Department. I love classroom discussions and I always find it a real privilege to be able to talk to students and find out what they think about big ideas and concepts. It is the best thing about my job!

When joining in 2021, I brought 16 years of previous leadership and management experience within PE and education. My main objectives are to make the course as enjoyable and interesting as possible, whilst helping you to realise your potential. You might see me outside of college rock climbing in Somerset, Devon & Cornwall, or at my family caravan in Cornwall over the summer holidays – so say ‘hi’ if you see me at the beach or in the water surfing!

I am a Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics and have examined for several exam boards. I joined the College in 2013 and now lead the highly experienced Physics team. I graduated from Durham University and completed a PGCE at the UCL Institute of Education. Prior to working in education I had a career in the media.

I have been Course Manager of Politics since September 2017. I relocated to the West Country from the Midlands where I had taught History and Politics at Rugby High, a girls’ grammar school, since 2003. I also oversee the student-led Politics and Debating society.

I recognise the importance of achieving a pass in GCSE English and the doors it will open for the students. In my free time, I’m a keen runner and normally in training for my next marathon or recovering from the previous!

I joined the in 1999 and still love everything about teaching here. It is a privilege to see students develop their love of literature and expand their literary horizons. In my spare time I enjoy theatre, the arts, all sorts of music, and I sing with a chamber choir. I am also very privileged to volunteer at St Margaret’s Hospice on my day off.

I have been teaching A Level Law for 7 years but have worked in education for the last 14. Prior to this I was a Police Officer with Avon and Somerset Police and a Road Safety Officer in Somerset, so I have lots of experience of law in the ‘real world’. Outside of college I have a husband, 3 daughters and a sausage dog called Monty who keep me occupied!  I am passionate about the Law department we have at Huish and developing your legal knowledge so hope to see you in Law very soon!

I graduated in Mathematics and Management Science from Manchester University in 2002. Ahead of joining Huish in 2023, I had taught Maths for 15 years at both secondary and FE level. I am passionate about the subject and I want students to enjoy developing their knowledge.

John Panton

I am a filmmaker and a teacher. I direct short films and music videos, and have had the honour of working with a variety of professionals including Matt Berry, Elbow, Nigel Planer, Rebecca Front and Mike Wozniak.

I have taught film and media at University and College’s for over twenty years. This includes BA Popular Culture, GCSEs/A-Levels in Film and Media Studies, alongside vocational Media programmes of study. I completed a degree in Media Arts from University of Plymouth and a Post-16 PGCE. This was followed by QTS from University of Gloucestershire and an MA in European Film Studies from University of Exeter.

I’m passionate about delivering Media education and seeing students grow in awareness about the media saturated world we live in. I’m very keen for students to make the most of career opportunities, recognising their skills within rapidly changing and expanding career paths.

I have loved studying Philosophy, Religion and Ethics since being inspired when studying Philosophy and Buddhism for my GCSEs. I pursued this passion through my own A Level and degree studies where I focused on studying Buddhism and the role of women in society and religion. In 2004 I became a Religious Studies teacher and then later Head of Department. I love classroom discussions and I always find it a real privilege to be able to talk to students and find out what they think about big ideas and concepts. It is the best thing about my job!

When joining in 2021, I brought 16 years of previous leadership and management experience within PE and education. My main objectives are to make the course as enjoyable and interesting as possible, whilst helping you to realise your potential. You might see me outside of college rock climbing in Somerset, Devon & Cornwall, or at my family caravan in Cornwall over the summer holidays – so say ‘hi’ if you see me at the beach or in the water surfing!

I am a Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics and have examined for several exam boards. I joined the College in 2013 and now lead the highly experienced Physics team. I graduated from Durham University and completed a PGCE at the UCL Institute of Education. Prior to working in education I had a career in the media.

I have been Course Manager of Politics since September 2017. I relocated to the West Country from the Midlands where I had taught History and Politics at Rugby High, a girls’ grammar school, since 2003. I also oversee the student-led Politics and Debating society.

I have loved Psychology since I was first introduced to the subject during my A Level studies. I am particularly interested in applied topics and the contribution of Psychology to our society. My role is to co-ordinate the curriculum and manage your progress on the course alongside your subject teachers.

Hola! I am Raquel, the Spanish teacher at Huish where I have been teaching since 2003. I am very passionate about my students learning my native language and new languages. What I love the most about being a teacher is seeing my students continue through life after college with the ability to communicate fluently in a different language.

I joined the College in February 2022, with previous experience in military leadership and management. I have been overseeing the GCSE English programme at Huish for over 10 years. During that time, I have helped hundreds of students to achieve this essential qualification. I recognise the importance of achieving a pass in GCSE English and the doors it will open for the students. I also oversee a talented team of teachers who share my passion for supporting students to achieve the qualification.
In my free time, I’m a keen runner and normally in training for my next marathon or recovering from the previous!

Appointed in 1998, after working in children’s social care, I started as a teacher of Health and Social Care and then became Course Manager of Sociology from 2001 -2010. I graduated from De Montfort University in 2002 with a BA (Hons) in Dance with Theatre and then completed a PGCE in Secondary Education Dance the year after. Since then I have taught in a range of schools and worked with students from Key Stage 1 to adults. I joined Huish in 2008 as a Dance Teacher before becoming Course Manager in 2011. Whilst working here I have also taught Sport and choreographed the college productions. I became Senior Progress Tutor in 2020 where my focus shifted to the pastoral and I started my current role in 2022.

Over the past 10 years, I have primarily supported vulnerable learners and those with additional needs in a range of education settings, such as mainstream primary and secondary schools, the local authority’s virtual school, as well as a forensic psychiatric setting. I have a love for sports and actively play both cricket and football on a regular basis and live locally to the college with my family and our dog, Missy. I am passionate about Learning Support and how it can be utilised in providing a ‘toolkit’ for students, regardless of their needs, to achieve and succeed here at Richard Huish College.
