During the current health epidemic, heroes have risen across Somerset to ensure pupils’ educations can continue to thrive. Richard Huish College would like to congratulate students, parents and our partner schools for all their hard work at this time and commend the community on how it has come together. Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice, Melanie Houghton is one of our Huish Heroes for the support she is providing to the great team at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School.
The School shared the current challenges they are facing; “At Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School in Wincanton, we have been working hard keeping the vulnerable and key workers’ children safe during the lockdown. The teaching staff have been busy making home schoolwork packs for all the children as well as coming into the school on a rota basis to teach the children that are still attending school.
“The day starts with the children and teaching staff limbering up with Joe Wicks PE, then it is on to Maths, Writing and Phonics before lunch. In the afternoon, the children watch a film or do arts and crafts. It is an honour to be part of this amazing team that are all remaining positive and focused on our care for the children at school and those being taught at home.”
Melanie Houghton is a knowledgeable member of Huish’ Apprenticeship cohort having many years of experience working with children. She has been named a Huish Hero as in addition to her commitment to her work placement at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School and College, she also finds time to support a local scouting group. Melanie has shown compassion and dedication to supporting her school during this uncertain time by providing breakfast club and lunches to children still attending school as well as supporting staff to provide continuous education.
The Richard Huish Education Group aims to provide exceptional education and training through the delivery of a holistic and vocational curriculum. Thank you to everyone across Somerset for all that you are doing to support pupils and our key workers.
