ADULT CARE DIPLOMA

LEVEL 3: PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
EXAMINING BOARD: CITY AND GUILDS

You will need to be employed in an adult care setting to complete this qualification.

It is ideal for experienced carers who hold senior responsibilities supporting/supervising other team members.

It will take approximately a year to complete although with commitment this time can be reduced.

You will be guided throughout by an Assessor.

They will help you build a portfolio of evidence of your knowledge and competency to achieve your qualification.

 

Mandatory units cover the core competencies. These include:

  • responsibilities and ways of working in adult care settings/services
  • safeguarding and protection in adult care settings/services
  • understanding mental capacity and restrictive practice
  • understanding duty of care
  • effective communication in adult care settings/services
  • handling information in adult care settings/services
  • promoting and implementing person-centred practice
  • promoting choice and independence in adult care settings/services
  • supporting individuals with their health and wellbeing
  • promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights in adult care settings/services
  • promoting health and safety in adult care settings/services
  • supporting infection prevention and control in adult care settings/services
  • implementing health and safety in adult care settings/services
  • continuous development when working in an adult care worker role
  • understanding personal wellbeing.

You then select additional units to tailor your qualification to the needs of your workplace.

Your duties will vary depending on your role and care setting but may include supporting individuals with their personal care needs, supporting with medication, care reviews, moving and positioning, dementia care and daily living needs.

The qualification will be fully funded (free to you) if you meet the following criteria:

  • You must currently work in a Health and Social Care setting
  • You must be aged 19 years or over at the beginning of the academic year
  • You must permanently reside in the UK
  • You must have lived in the EU/UK for 3 years
  • You must earn less than £25,000 per annum

If you are aged 19-23 years old and earn more than £25,000 per annum this course can still be fully-funded if you have not previously completed a Level 3 qualification.

You will create a portfolio to evidence your knowledge and skills.

This may consist of written assignments, observations and supporting evidence.

Observations will be planned in advance and take place in the workplace.

Your Assessor will meet with you regularly to help you plan and progress through the qualification.

You can complete this qualification using an online programme or using a paper-based portfolio.

You could progress on to a Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care.

Potential careers include Senior Carer, Team Leader and Deputy Manager (with additional training).
