Overview

Projects can be defined and delivered within different contexts, across diverse industry sector, and may be large or small. Every project needs to be managed to ensure its success.

If you are working within a project management role this apprenticeship will ensure you know what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost. You will develop your skills working with a project team to achieve the required outcomes. You need good planning, organisation, leadership, management and communication skills. You will utilise resources with suitable skills, qualifications, experience and knowledge to work together in a motivated and integrated team, with clearly defined reporting lines, roles, responsibilities and authorities.

Throughout this 24 month apprenticeship, you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to become an effective project manager, gaining the embedded qualification, until you finally showcase your competence as an associate project manager in an industry designed endpoint assessment.

As an essential element of the Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship, you will work towards achieving the APM Project Manager Qualification (PMQ), recognised as IPMA Level D.

Taught lessons and workshops provide the basis for learning. Reading, research and assignments are completed within a fixed period, with help from your assessor and tutor, leading to the PMQ exam.

You will spend 20% of your working hours in study and development throughout the apprenticeship in order to develop the knowledge and skills needed in this L4 programme.

You will develop your project management skills across a range of competency areas including governance, stakeholder and communications management, budgeting and cost control, project planning, management of scope, project scheduling, risk and issues, contract and procurement, quality, and  resource. You will develop your skills in leadership, team working and collaboration and communication, working with integrity and professionalism.

To do this course you need the following:

  • No formal qualifications required
  • Before completion of your apprenticeship, you must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
  • You must be employed in a role where you will be managing projects of sufficient complexity.
