You will be assessed by a portfolio that you will create throughout your duration of the Apprenticeship.

What progression opportunities are available?
Upon completion many Apprentices are offered opportunities with their employers or you may be able to progress onto the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Lucy Cahill – Level 2 Business Administration Apprentice at Cannington Health Centre

Lucy Cahill answering the phone I chose to improve my life and make the big step of job hunting after working from home – I was feeling lonely and lacked qualifications despite having experience of creating documents, articles, and admin/computer skills.

Upon searching for jobs I came across numerous Apprenticeships and met and applied with many providers, however, it was Richard Huish College that impressed me the most and the provider I found the most welcoming and promising. Meeting with the team allowed me to match with great fitting apprenticeships and build confidence that I would find the correct job whilst gaining vital qualifications.

I was offered the position at Cannington Health Centre to complete the Business Admin Level 2 Apprenticeship/Diploma. At first I worried I’d be the oldest in the group, when in reality I was one in the middle, there were plenty older and younger, the classes remained small and once I’d attended a few classes, ‘study mornings’, at the College, I felt relaxed, settled and met some lovely people.

The tutors and support at Huish were great, especially my Accessor who visits you in the work place, to check how you’re doing and complete observations and assignments. Natalie was incredible when it came to marking and helping me improve my assignments (which are all submitted via on online website/portal) – she colour coded, highlighted areas to edit and any grammar or spelling mistakes. Editing and resubmitting couldn’t have been made any easier and she was always at the end of the email, text or call.

Simple things that stood out when completing my time at Huish were the relaxed classes, online submitting of assignments and flexibility of closing your units to complete your qualification. I enjoyed the weekly Costa trip pre-class, honestly from the catering staff to your tutors the team are all so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Having to travel from Bridgwater was a little worry at first however Huish provided a parking permit to their secure car park, I never had issues with parking, I could always find a space.

I’m incredibly grateful to have found the position I did, not only did I make some friends for life in the work place, I had such a supportive team who taught me a lot. The Apprenticeship allowed me to grow as a person, blossom with confidence and expand on the skills I already had. In a time where I felt lost and confused to where I wanted to go in life with my career, I have now settled into a new job, in the career field I’m passionate about and can’t wait to grow and creep up the career path ladder. Although there was an option to stay with my employer temporarily I actually secured and have been in my new job in a Doctors surgery closer to home, with more hours on a permanent contract – with a fantastic team who have all been welcoming and supportive.

If you too are looking for the next step and feeling a little confused on where to go with your career I’d recommend Huish for your studies or Apprenticeships. It’s allowed me to find myself, flourish and gain vital experience, skills and knowledge as well as the courage to also battle many personal circumstances I’d been hiding from.
