LEVEL 2: BTEC EXTENDED CERTIFICATE
EXAMINING BOARD: PEARSON EDEXCEL

This course is a core component of the Level 2 Creative Pathway. Studied alongside two other GCSEs, this one year course will help you prepare for a Level 3 Study Programme and to pursue a creative career.

You will develop skills in video production (e.g. camera operating, lighting and sound), and editing (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro) as well as research, analysis, planning, organisation, leadership and communication. There are also opportunities to develop skills in English and Mathematics.

There is the opportunity to complete a week of work experience in a Media related business, to start to think about applying what you have learnt on the course.

You can take part in enrichment activities at the College within your Study Programme including study visits to London (BBC, Warner Bros. Studios) and Bristol (BBC, Watershed).

Throughout this course you will develop skills in video production (e.g. camera operating, lighting, sound), audio production and editing (e.g. Adobe Suite), research, analysis, planning, organisation, leadership and communication.

On this course you will study the following topics:

  • Understanding how media products are made to appeal to their target audiences
  • Plan, shoot and edit a media product (such as a Music Video or film Trailer)
  • Create visual effects (such as blue screen or digital compositing) for a video production
  • HPQ project – planning, researching and producing a documentary on a subject of your choice.
  • Media related work experience

The assessments are completed thorough a combination of different types of internal coursework. The format of the assignments are varied and could include activities such as creating a film clip, planning a presentation, or writing a report.

You will complete a Higher Project Qualification, planning, researching and producing a documentary – on a subject of your choice.

You must be aged 16 years+ to complete the Level 2 Pathway.

The standard entry requirement is a GCSE profile of grade 3s however the programme is also aimed at students who haven’t had the opportunity to sit GCSE’s, this could be for several reasons which could include students who have been homeschooled.
