In this role you will be working to deliver to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements. As an Apprentice you will work under the supervision of a Nursery Manager.

This Apprenticeship will take approximately 15 months to complete.

Your duties will vary depending on the setting but could include;

  • planning and leading child initiated and adult led activities which are based around the needs and interests of each individual child
  • supporting children to develop holistically, including numeracy and language skills, and designing an environment to enable learning
  • ensuring compliance with the EYFS, including health and safety and key person responsibilities
  • being responsible for meeting children’s needs, such as feeding, changing, and administering medicine, and using technology to record and update information
  • working with parents/carers and internal and external agencies, such as the SENCo, Reception Teachers, Social Workers and Speech and Language Therapists.

You will attend College on day release once a fortnight to develop your knowledge.

A good level of literacy, numeracy and communication is required. Ideally you will have GCSE Mathematics and English grades C/4 or above.

You will need to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

You will be assessed by a portfolio made up of coursework assignments and evidence of your competency. Your work-based mentor (Assessor) will help you create your portfolio as you demonstrate your skills in the workplace.

Before the end of your Apprenticeship you will have created a portfolio of evidence ready for your end point assessment, completed Functional Skills in Maths and English (if required) and achieved a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid.

At the final stage of your Apprenticeship you will complete an end point assessment (EPA). This is conducted by an impartial party and measures whether you have met the criteria of the Apprenticeship. You will have plenty of support from Huish and your employer as you prepare for your EPA and this can be a very exciting time as you complete your training.
