History is a fascinating and vibrant subject that will give you the opportunity to develop your own ideas. Our course embraces a wide range of human activity and you will have the chance to broaden your interests, examine historical issues, challenge existing orthodoxies and engage with historical debates.
You will be able to analyse sources critically, make comparative judgments and test your opinions; skills that will stand you in good stead in a vast range of careers. This A Level course will be offered as a two year programme.
Content of this course is as followed:
Breadth Study: Tsarist and Communist Russia, 1855–1964
Depth Study: British history between 1951 and 2007
Historical Investigation: British Empire c.1800-1900
You will attend 4 hours and 40 minutes of lesson a week and will be expected to spend 4-5 hours a week outside of lessons completing essays, questions, reading and notes.
You will develop their essay writing, research, argument and analytical skills through this course. You will also engage in essay writing, research and presentations as well as creating historical videos and posters.
History is a good route into careers in research, law, teaching, finance and corporate graduate programmes. It is highly valued by universities and is on the Russell Group’s list of ‘facilitating subjects.’

Level 3 standard entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Mathematics and English Language.
Can I study history if I haven’t done GCSE History?
Are there any trips?
Yes, we run trips to London every year. We alternate between the Imperial War Museum, London Science Museum and the V&A Museum depending on when relevant exhibitions are running.
