Learning Mentor Apprenticeship

Learning Mentor Apprenticeship

Level 3 Apprenticeship
Examining Board: Apprenticeship Standard

Course overview

The Learning Mentor role has emerged over the last 30 years as a result of the implementation of sector/specialist qualifications (notably NVQs) and formalised work-based education and training. ‘Mentoring’ is today, and has been for centuries, the foundation of vocational training and apprenticeships.

The Learning Mentor is, and has to be ‘grounded’ in up-to-date processes and procedures, relevant to the learner’s programme of development. The Learning Mentor role is a first step towards development as an education and training professional.

The course

Studying with Richard Huish College, as part of this 15 month apprenticeship, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required under the Apprenticeship Standard.

At work, you will build your portfolio as you support the development of your learner’s knowledge, skills and behaviours, throughout their learning programme, particularly around the application of theoretical knowledge within practical working environments. You will provide practical, technical and pastoral support and guidance to your learners, and collaborate closely with colleagues, education and training professionals.

You will be supported by an assessor allocated by Richard Huish College and by your Manager, and you may attend optional classroom based sessions.

You will spend 20% of your working hours in study and development throughout the apprenticeship until you are ready to complete the programme with an industry designed end point assessment.

To do this course you need the following:

  • You should hold a qualification in, or have recent experience and knowledge relevant to the subject in which you will be mentoring.
  • You must also have access to two learners who you will be mentoring. Before completion of your Apprenticeship.
  • Before completion of your Apprenticeship, you must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths, and a Level 1 qualification in Safeguarding.
