MUSIC PRODUCTION

LEVEL 3: Extended Certificate (BTEC FOUNDATION DIPLOMA)
EXAMINING BOARD: PEARSON

The course looks at every aspect of the use of technology to create, capture and manipulate music.

Practical work includes live sound, writing, recording, producing, sampling and sequencing.

The technical aspects of recording, sequencing and synthesis are dealt with both theoretically and practically and you will develop your knowledge of music technology experimentally.

The qualification you achieve is a Foundation Diploma, which equates to 1.5 A Levels, and it can be combined with two other subjects (A Levels or Extended Certificates) to form your Study Programme.

You will be taught in our Aspen Music Centre which was purpose-built for the teaching of Music and features state-of-the-art recording and technology equipment.

There is a dedicated suite of Apple Macs running Logic Studio and Pro Tools software and two recording studios.

You will work closely with the Music Performance students, helping record, produce and create live sound with Huish artists and bands.

As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to);

  • GCSE Mathematics grade 4
  • GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4
  • plus three more GCSEs at grade 4

You will also need to have musical ability (ability to play an instrument/sing) and some experience using music software.

There are regular formal assessments in the form of recordings, compositions, sequences, presentations, and creative written work.

  • Music and Audio Technology
  • the prestigious Tonmeister Course.

Others have:

  • worked in recording studios (including Abbey Road)
  • gone into Music Management and promotional jobs (e.g. Senior Account Manager at Be-Hookd Digital and Artist Manager)
  • worked as Film Music Composers and Producers.

This course will prepare you to work in many areas of the Music industry.
