About the course

This course is for you if you have a keen interest in current affairs. 

The course focuses on current politics in both the UK and the USA. There will be opportunities to visit Parliament and see a parliamentary debate. There is also a biennial trip to the USA to visit Washington DC. 

You will develop a critical awareness of the nature of politics. You will also understand the structure of authority and power within the political system of the UK and the USA.

Here are some of the topic areas we cover:

• UK politics: Political parties, voting behaviour, Parliament, the Prime Minister and Government.
• US politics: US elections and political parties, US Congress, the President and Government.
