Course overview

This exciting new course can help you take your first steps towards a career in supporting the public. You'll learn the essential skills for a wide range of careers, from the armed services and police force to roles at local authorities and central government.

Units offered include the role and work of public services, community protection, and the working skills required to meet the needs of the public.

You will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding by applying your learning and skills in a work related context. The teaching team create a series of relevant assignments, which can be written or activity based, offering variety to your learning. The format of the assignments are varied and could include activities such undertaking an expedition, adventerous activity or fitness testing, planning a presentation, or writing a report.

The assessments are completed thorough a combination of internal and external assessment. 

To fully understand the sector there are many trips to Public Service providers such as Fire and Rescue, Ambulance, Army and Airforce. There are opportunities to develop skills in English and Mathematics. These give learners the opportunity to practise essential skills in naturally occurring and meaningful contexts.

There may be additional trip and equipment costs for this course.
