About the course

This course aims to raise your Spanish to A Level at which you will be able to communicate effectively in writing and speaking. It equips you with the language skills to appreciate the rich culture of Spain and the Spanish speaking world.

You are constantly encouraged to use the language using a variety of activities and you are exposed to a wide selection of authentic Spanish sources. There is also the opportunity to go on a residential trip to Spain.

The topics are entirely different from GCSE and the approach is probably different too. You will split your time between the classroom and the language lab and will also benefit from a weekly 20 minute oral session with a native speaker.

Here are some of the topic areas we cover:

  • Spanish media, culture, lifestyles, family and relationships
  • Current affairs such as the latest film craze or a political crisis
  • Contemporary social and environmental issues

The resources available in the LC (Spanish films, novels
etc) are extremely useful in improving my comprehension
of the language.

To do this course you need the following:

  • Standard college entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English Language
  • GCSE Spanish minimum grade 5 or competent speaker
