SUPPORTING TEACHING AND LEARNING CERTIFICATE
LEVEL 2: PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

This qualification is ideal for existing Teaching Assistants or school volunteers who are passionate about working with children and want to begin a career in education.
The course is free if you have lived in the EU for 3 years and are aged 19 years or above at the beginning of the academic year.
It has been designed to provide you with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with young people in education environments.
To evidence your skills, you will need to be working/volunteering in an environment supporting learners aged 5 years+. You will gain experience working both alongside a Teacher and working independently with individuals or groups for classroom activities.
Your duties will be led by the Teacher you support but could include supporting Maths, English and ICT activities, promoting positive behaviour, creating displays or providing feedback alongside the Teacher.
This course has 11 mandatory units.
You will develop knowledge in:
- safeguarding young people
- diversity and inclusivity in education
- wellbeing in young people
- health and safety
- understanding how children develop
- how to maintain professional relationshipswith young people
- supporting positive behaviour
- teamwork
- understanding children’s play and leisure
- how to create an effective learning environment
The qualification will be fully funded (free to you) if you meet the following criteria:
- You must be aged 19 years or over at the beginning of the academic year
- You must permanently reside in the UK
- You must have lived in the EU/UK for 3 years
- You must earn less than £25,000 per annum

You will need to work in a learning environment (school/college) for the duration of your qualification and your duties should include supporting classroom activities including Maths, English and ICT.
You will be internally assessed via direct observations in the workplace by your Tutor/Assessor and through written assignments.
You may progress onto a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship or direct into employment.
