TEACHING ASSISTANT APPRENTICESHIP

LEVEL 3: APPRENTICESHIP
EXAMINING BOARD: NCFE/CACHE

This Apprenticeship will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills to support Teachers in an educational setting for children aged 5 and upwards.

You will work both alongside the Teacher to support classroom activities and alone with individuals or groups of students.

This Apprenticeship is suitable for existing Teaching Assistants and those passionate to begin working with children.

The Apprenticeship will take approximately 18 months to complete.

 

You’ll work under the close supervision of a Teacher.  Your duties will vary depending on how the Teachers you work with plan their lessons but could include:

  • supporting children 1:1
  • leading interventions
  • supporting with assessments
  • small group work
  • supporting with planning.

You will attend college on day release once a fortnight to develop your knowledge.

You will learn;

  • the stages of development for children and young people
  • how technology can support learning
  • methods of observing, recording, and reporting
  • the curriculum intent, how it is implemented and the intended impact
  • types of learning intervention
  • to adapt resources to support all learners
  • to comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety
  • to support the well-being and mental health of learners
  • to identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.

A good level of literacy, numeracy and communication is required. Ideally you will have GCSE Mathematics and English grades C/4 or above.

You will need to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

You may be required to undertake Functional Skills in Maths and English alongside your Apprenticeship.

 

Your work-based mentor (Assessor) will help you create a portfolio as you demonstrate your skills in the workplace. This will be include coursework assignments and evidence of your competency.

To complete your Apprenticeship you will complete an end point assessment (EPA).

Your EPA is conducted by an impartial party and measures whether you have met the criteria of the Apprenticeship.

You will have plenty of support from Huish and your employer as you prepare for your EPA.

Potential careers include Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Special Needs Assistant.
