Following a few Geology students feeling challenged by a tricky mock exam question, a creative solution was found to make the concept of faulting of a plunging syncline appear a piece of cake, literally!

Course Manager, Tim Dickinson explains “One of the trickier parts of Geology is imagining what bent and folded beds of rock look like when they are cut into by erosion or faulting so we thought what better way to understand this vital topic than by eroding a bed of cake!

“Luckily the parents of one of the students run Midnight Cake Creations and a fantastic anticline fold made of delicious multicoloured cake allowed for a rapid, and surprisingly engaging demonstration”.

“Thank you Midnight Cake Creations for supporting our students”.
