Olivia Waterland is one of amazing Level 2 Business Administration Apprentices working on the Receptions of our Somerset hospitals. Olivia works at Frome Hospital and during the lockdown has been having regular meetings over the phone with her Assessor, and taking part in online lessons.
She commented, “I love my job, and during the COVID 19 outbreak it has been a difficult and busy time but also interesting and rewarding. I have been learning new techniques and procedures to support staff and patients during the outbreak. People are worried and anxious when they come to the hospital and it is rewarding to be able to welcome them, and help them feel at ease when they arrive at Reception.”
Olivia has played an active part in helping to make the reception areas safer for staff and helping visitors follow social distancing guidelines. She commented, “I have been learning about Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safety measures to safeguard patients and staff. As part of my course I am studying a Health and Safety unit so I have lots of practical examples I can use that I have recently learnt at work.”
Rachel Oddie, Apprenticeship Assessor at Huish commented “Olivia has handled a difficult situation with a positive attitude and managed to juggle her job and studies so that she keeps progressing with her Apprenticeship. Many of our Apprentices are key workers and I have been impressed by their dedication to keep the community safe and well during the Covid-19 outbreak.”
