Past and present staff and students of Richard Huish College gathered on Friday 31st March to celebrate the life of Law Course Manager, Mike Twyble, who passed away in December 2022.

At the special memorial service, the community shared memories of Mike and acknowledged the huge impact he made on the College and their lives.

Mike’s family were in attendance and his wife Helen gifted the College with a new trophy, the Twyble Law Award, which will be presented to a Law student who shows exceptional promise at the next annual Huish Prizegiving Ceremony.

Alongside his love of teaching, Mike was an avid chess player and so as a fitting tribute, and to preserve his passion for chess at Huish, two outdoor stone chess tables were unveiled at the memorial for students to enjoy for years to come.

In memory of Mike, a group of his students have been raising funds for the Marie Curie Foundation and the North Devon Hospice so the charities can continue to support people living with cancer. By walking a ‘Marathon for Mike’ they raised over £2,000. If you would like to donate please visit their go fund page.
