65 students from Richard Huish College qualified for the AOC Nationals across a variety of sports including Women’s Basketball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Rugby, Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton and Cross-Country.

The students travelled to the University of Nottingham in April where events kicked-off on Friday with Basketball, Badminton and Tennis. All students were then in action the following day against some of the best regional sides from across the country.

Saturday saw Huish win bronze in the Women’s Individual Table Tennis competition, silver in the Women’s Team Cross Country and gold in the Men’s Team Cross Country. The Women’s Basketball team and Men’s Rugby team also progressed in their competitions. By the end of the day, Huish students were in the running for the overall winner of the weekend, with only two points separating the top three regions, South-East, South-West and the Midlands.

The final day saw more medals; the Huish Cross-Country teams took both gold and silver in the Mixed Relay event and the Women’s Basketball team earned a well-deserved silver. Meanwhile the Men’s Rugby team placed joint second with three teams, falling just short of a medal finish on overall points difference.

Huish performed incredibly once again and finished third in the overall competition. Mike Ryan, Huish Sport Development Officer shared “well done to all involved, we can’t wait until next year where we will be back fighting for that top spot”.

In further AoC success, the Huish Men’s Basketball and Volleyball teams travelled to the University of Birmingham to compete in the AoC Sport National Knockout Cup in May. After a gruelling tournament with highs and lows for the many teams, Huish once again proved their strength and resilience by making it to the final rounds. Both the Men’s Volleyball team the Men’s Basketball team achieved silver.
