Two Richard Huish College students are preparing to represent Somerset at the upcoming English Schools Athletics Track and Field Championships being held in Birmingham at the start of July. Following successes at the County Championship, Holly Mae Mckenna and Toby Sauter join the strong Somerset Squad looking to win the National titles.

Toby Sauter qualified in the Triple Jump competition and as part of his selection will have the prestigious honour of captaining the Somerset Senior Boys team at the National Championships.

Holly Mae Mckenna has had many personal successes on the track recently, competing both across the South West and in the Welsh Indoor Athletics season. Her fine Indoor Season saw her win Silver in the Indoor 60m sprint, whilst the County Championships saw Holly run a Personal Best of 14.4 seconds in the 100m Hurdles. The time didn’t just secure her selection for the Somerset Team but was also within the National England Time, which may yet see her given the call up to represent England Athletics. Alongside her individual success at the championships, Holly will also join the 4x100m relay squad for the Senior Girls alongside other females from across the county.

Sport Development Manager, Connor Sidley-Adams commented, “The success of both students has been amazing to see, being able to watch them progress through Area, County and now onto the National Stage is a real credit to them as athletes. The hard work that they put in does not go un-noticed and we wish them all of the best at the upcoming championships”. Both Holly and Toby will now proceed to represent Somerset on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th July at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
