Two Richard Huish College sportspeople have been selected to represent the Association of Colleges (AoC) England teams following several weeks of trials.

For the second consecutive year, Netball ace Lauren Knight has been selected for the England Colleges’ Netball team. Following the regional tournament in November, Lauren, alongside four other Huish students was selected to attend the National trial held at Nottingham University. After enduring a rigorous two day try out Lauren was successfully accepted into the 20 strong England Colleges’ squad and will now travel to Sunderland in January to be put through her paces at a training camp before planned fixtures against Northern Ireland U19s, Surrey Storm U21s, Seven Starts U21s and Wales U19s.

Lauren had an incredible first year at Huish last year, being awarded the England Colleges ‘A Team’ Most Improved Player of the Season and the Sportswomen of the Year at the Huish Sport Awards. Lauren not only represented England Colleges last season, she also played for Huish Sport in the SW Netball league, whilst pursuing her club career at Taunton Netball Club alongside her academic studies. Commenting on her incredible achievement, Lauren said, “I am thrilled to have been selected into the squad for the second year in a row. Last year was such a fun experience and I felt like I improved so much as an individual player. It was so enjoyable to get to play alongside a completely new team of such high-level netballers.”

Also celebrating National recognition, Ivo Maxwell has secured his place in the AoC England Men’s Hockey squad following a successful final trial in Reading at the end of November. Ivo currently plays for Taunton Vale 1st team and U18’s, as well as Huish men’s and will now go forward to participate in several training camps before representing England against the other nations.

Sports Development Officer, Mike Ryan said “This is a fantastic achievement for Ivo and Lauren, they are the latest generation of a long line of successful Huish athletes who have gone on to represent their country. We wish them both of the best of luck and look forward to supporting them on their journey”.
