Huish Student, Amie Reading has been nominated for an award in the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards after completing her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and for giving her time to volunteer with the Beavers.
The Pride of Somerset Youth Awards are an annual awards show which celebrate the achievements of young people in the local area. This year’s awards are slightly different in that last year’s edition was cancelled due to the pandemic and so for 2021 it will be taking into account the past 18 months’ worth of hard work, bravery and dedication it has taken for all the nominees to reach their success and achieve their respective goals. For the awards there will be six different categories – Volunteering, Charitable Work, Arts and Culture, Sport, Overcoming Adversity and Enterprise.
Upper Sixth student Amie, who is currently studying the Extended Diploma in Childcare and Education, has gone through the gruelling task of completing her Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award which shows impeccable amount of dedication having had to stay on the programme for 12-18 months. She has also been helping the local community by volunteering with the Beavers, a fantastic show of generosity and outstanding way to represent Huish.
The awards will be announced this year on Somerset Day, Tuesday 11th May, and we wish Amie the very best of luck as she aims to win the Volunteering award.
