This year the Physics department has partnered with the Independent Research in Schools (IRIS) project to offer Cosmic Mining as an EnRICH option.

Through this astrophysics project, students contribute to studies which aim to identify how cosmic materials were created over the history of the Universe.

So far they completed the first part of the project by analysing spectral data collected from the Spitzer Space Telescope, which has observed over 13,000 point sources.

Cosmic Mining offers an exciting classification exercise using a rich collection of existing data as well as an opportunity to present results at a national conference.
