Students completing a Level 2 Pathway at Richard Huish College built their skills during National Careers Week by completing a variety of work placements.

The Level 2 Pathway is designed to support students who due to ill health or personal circumstances may have not been able to complete GCSE studies and who want to prepare themselves for Level 3 Study Programmes.

The challenging one-year Science, Social Science and Creative pathways allow them to access tutorial support and EnRICH opportunities at the College and gain qualifications for progression to Level 3 courses or employment.

Students selected work placements based on their interests. Student Emily joined J&K Aquatics and helped settle Western Dwarf Hermann Tortoises into their new home whilst Jarno took over Taunton Rugby Football Club’s social media whilst assisting their Marketing department.

One student commented on their placement, “my work experience was fantastic I loved it, the kids are amazing I really enjoyed it! They all made me a card as a class together to take home which was cute”.

An employer shared “I just wanted to write to let you know Izzy got on really well at the Oaks Hub. The Team Leader Ruth really enjoyed having her… She even still came in on Wednesday despite the snow which showed commitment! We would welcome her back anytime and hope that she grows in confidence as she gains more experience in this field.”
