The Richard Huish College Netball 1st team recently claimed third place at the South West Regional Netball finals in Bournemouth. The girls came up against teams from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Somerset, including some strong opposition from Exeter, Truro and Hartpury who all play in the Premier Leagues.
The team, led by Nicky Henderson and Cath Clark, finished second in their pool with an outstanding victory against Truro College. This achievement secured their place in the semi-finals where they faced Hartpury, knowing that a win would send them to the National finals. The girls unfortunately lost out, however bounced back in the bronze medal match to beat KES from Bath 11-6.
Sports Development Manager, Connor Sidley-Adams, commented, “This is a fantastic achievement from our Netball team, they have been a real credit to the College this year with Netball going from strength to strength under the stewardship of head coach Nicky Henderson and assistant coaches Cath Clark and Helen Brunt. We are really starting to see the benefits of the fantastic facilities at Huish where the girls can practice their skills twice a week with weekly fixtures against local schools and colleges.”
The Netball provision has grown considerably this year going from 2 to 3 teams and over 60 girls participating. The girls will be looking to bring back the County title on the 7th March to go alongside their AoC Sport League Title and bronze medals from regionals.
