Richard Huish College have once again seen sporting success with their Basketball and Hockey teams progressing to the Quarter Finals of the AoC Sport National Cup after resounding wins in the Last 16 of the Cup.

The Men’s Basketball team took on Sir George Monoux College, who travelled down from London to contest the Last 16 tie. The Huish side made a strong start, getting ahead early in the game and finishing with a 101-50 win. This earned them their place in the National Cup Quarter Final where they will play Richard Collier College in West Sussex.

The Women’s Basketball team triumphed against Peter Symonds College. It was a tough affair throughout, however a strong final quarter saw the team run out 51-46 winners to progress to the Quarter Finals where they will face Leyton Sixth form at home on 13th February.

Both the Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams have also reached the Quarter Finals of the National Cup. Next the Men’s Hockey team will travel to Surrey to face Farnborough Sixth Form College after their strong victory away to Hereford back in November. Whereas the Women’s team will face a home tie against Godalming College after their convincing victory against Kings of Wessex Academy at the start of January. Both teams will be looking to push on to reach the Semi-Finals of the Cup with both quarter final fixtures taking place on the 13th February.

Sport Development Manager, Connor Sidley-Adams said “This is another fantastic example of the success of the students at Huish. They continue to push themselves further and further both on the pitches and balancing their academics, so to reach this level of competition is a fantastic achievement. Sport at Huish is going from strength to strength and the partnerships we have in place are allowing our students to excel – this is shown specifically through the fantastic opportunities that our Huish Tigers outreach programme offers. The Basketball success is no coincidence as this is the next cog in a long journey for these students some of whom have been with us since Under 12s.”

If you are interested in finding more out about the Sport at Huish and how to get involved, Huish is running a Sport Development Day on Tuesday 19th February which is open to all students in Year 10 and 11 – to book your place head to www.huish.ac.uk.
