A talented Richard Huish College student is heading to the European Karate Championships in Serbia this month to once again compete for England.

Thea Priest, 18, who studies Geography, Geology, Maths and EPQ, was introduced to the sport at age 10. The former Castle School pupil, who trains with Somerset Ryu Karate, was first selected for the England team four years ago and has since represented her country in a number of highly prestigious international competitions. In 2018 alone she has racked up five gold, five silver and two bronze medals and last year brought home gold and bronze medals from the World Championships.

In addition to her sporting accolades, Thea also recently received her KUGB (Karate Union of Great Britain) Gold Young Leaders Award in recognition of the many hours she has spent assisting her Chief Instructor in training junior members in the sport.
