Trampoline stars Liam and Lucy
Lucy Morton and Liam Isaac, two students from Richard Huish College, recently won gold medals in the National Trampoline Championships in Sheffield. The event that took place on the 9th November, saw competitors from all over the country competing for the top spot.
Lucy came first in League 3 for females aged 15-16, scoring a total of 45.04, whilst Liam scored 50.16 earning him the top spot in League one for males aged 15-16. Liam also competed in the DMT 15+ super league, where he was awarded third place.
The pair both compete for Whirlwinds Academy, a trampoline team based in Wellington. Lucy picked up the sport at the tender age of 3 and Liam aged 10 after he was introduced to it by a friend, and both have gone on to represent the South West, and Liam, England.
Though first year students, the pair manage to successfully balance their studies alongside their training, with both practising for a combined total of 19 hours per week. Ex-Taunton Academy student, Liam, studies A Level’s in Early Modern History, Geography and Physical Education, and ex-Bishop Foxes student, Lucy, studies A Level Maths, Geography and Graphic Design.
Next year they are both set to travel abroad to compete in Portugal. Liam also has his sights set on competing at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, with his England and Team GB trials soon approaching.
Huish is extremely proud of Lucy and Liam’s achievements and wish them good luck with their future competitions.
