Huish Sport continues with their recent run of success, with three of their teams progressing into the semi-finals of their respective sports.

This month saw the Women’s Basketball team compete against Leyton Sixth Form College from London in the National Cup quarter-final. Playing at home, Huish came out triumphant beating their opponents with a 64-31 win, leading them to the semi-finals where they will play New City College, Hackney in March. The girls have also secured a place in the semi-finals of the Dynamik Cup where they will play Charnwood away on the 6th March, and in April they will also compete in the AoC Sport National Championships. Hoping to match their female counterparts the Men’s Basketball team will compete in the quarter-finals against The College of Richard Collyer on 27th February.

In the same week as the Women’s Basketball success the Women’s Hockey team also secured a place in the semi-finals. Beating Godalming College from Surrey with a 3-0 win, the team will now travel to Cambridge to compete against Hills Road Sixth Form, in hope of securing a place in the AoC Sport National Cup Final.

After finishing 2nd in the league, ranking higher than local teams Bridgwater and Taunton College and Weston College, Huish Men’s Rugby XV also earnt their place in the National Premier quarter-finals. They will now play Coleg y Cymoedd from Caerphilly in Wales on the 6th March in hope of progressing onto the next stage. This is a great opportunity for the students to play at a high level of rugby, with the opposing team consisting of 15 Cardiff Blues Academy and 10 Welsh international players.

Speaking on the College’s recent sporting successes, Sport Development Manager, Connor Sidley-Adams said; “This is a fantastic achievement by our students to be not just competing on a National stage but to be excelling within their sports. The achievements of the students is something that the College are extremely proud to have been a part of and we look forward to supporting them in their semi-finals.”
