The Richard Huish College Equestrian team have qualified for the National Schools finals after winning the Southern championships last month. The team made up of Henrietta Ewell, Lottie Gaukroger, Kirsten Hill and Daisy Sefton, are in their inaugural year and are looking to compete at the highest level.
The Southern Championships took place in Moreton Dorset, with the girls competing in the 90cm class. A strong performance from the team saw them qualify for the NSEA Eventing Championships at Stonar, Wiltshire taking place in September 2019. On the day Henrietta also positioned 6th individually in the competition.
Sport Development Manager, Connor Sidley-Adams mentioned: “The success of the Equestrian team in its first year is a massive positive. To be able to offer the girls an opportunity to compete in a Sport they love, is great for us at the College and we would like to thank the team for bringing the idea forward. We would also like to thank the team manager, Julie Gaukroger, who is overseeing the management of the team on eventing days. We wish all the best to the students at the September national finals.”
The Equestrian team is just one part of an ever growing Sport Enrichment programme the College has to offer. They join a long list of Huish students who have competed in the National Finals of their respective sports.
