Richard Huish College students Andy Watson and Jamie Guest have been busy over the Christmas period and into 2019 representing their respective Rugby Academies. In recent weeks Jamie has continued his progress with Bath Rugby Club in their Under 18 set up whilst Andy is continuing to impress in his debut season with Bristol Bears under 18s.
Second year student Andy, who originates from Yeovil, has come through the Performance Development Rugby Programme at Huish and is now looking to take his next steps in his Rugby career. Following his selection he has gone on to play against some of the best young sides in the country including Harlequins, Gloucester, Exeter Chiefs and London Irish.
Whereas, second year student Jamie, who originates from Bridgwater, is into his second year with Bath Rugby following his selection last year as an U17. This year Jamie has gone on to excel at U18 level where he has featured in a games against Gloucester and Exeter Chiefs, where he scored a try in a 64-7 victory.
Sport Development Manager, Connor Sidley-Adams said “Both Jamie and Andy have gone from strength to strength as part of the Rugby programme here at Huish. Jamie has shown that it is possible to gain a rounded education whilst also playing within Academy rugby. Whereas, our recently formed partnership with Bristol Bears is allowing Huish students to stay in Taunton to study their academic choices, whilst also progressing in their Rugby under the watchful eyes of the Bristol Bears coaching staff”.
Students in Year 10 and 11 can find out more about Sport at Huish at a Sport Development Day being held on 19th February. Sports included are Men’s and Women’s Football, Rugby, Hockey, Basketball and Netball.
