Summer Exams (Year 2, Level 2 and GCSE Students)
The following statement was sent to school and college leaders “In these circumstances, we do not think it is possible for exams to go ahead fairly this summer. The Secretary of State for Education will be asking Ofqual to consult rapidly on an approach for alternative arrangements that will allow students to progress fairly”. Further to this, Gavin Williamson (Secretary of State for Education) made an announcement to the House of Commons in which he said student results will be a form of “Teacher Assessed Grade”. Williamson was clear that this will be a different process from last summer and that specific guidance, training and support will be provided to schools and colleges in the coming weeks. Once we receive more detailed information on this process, we will continue to keep you updated. We know that this will feel very strange and that there are lots of unanswered questions. Please don’t worry, we will work with you every step of the way and are experienced and successful in supporting Huish students in similar circumstances last year.
As always, continue to do your very best and please let you teachers or tutor know if you need any help or have any concerns.
Year 2 Formal Assessments (w/b 18th Jan)
With a national lockdown in place until February Half Term, it does not feel appropriate to run the Formal Assessments remotely. We intend, where possible, to provide a further opportunity to run something similar later this term. In order to allow you to continue to practise applying your knowledge and learning to exam style questions, your teachers will continue to set ‘lesson-based’ assessments as usual in the coming weeks.
IT and Other Technical Equipment
If you do not have the IT you need to access your online lessons, please let your Progress Tutor know as soon as you can. If you are unable to access online learning from home as a result of IT or connectivity difficulties, please email your Progress Tutor so that we can book you into a study space for your lessons. Please note that non boarding students at the College, who need to come and access lessons from on site, will not be based in the LC but in a separate study space as part of our health and safety processes.
If you receive a positive Covid test, please continue to ring the College Reception as previously so that we can support you, even if you are well enough to continue to attend your lessons online.
Keep safe, take really good care of yourselves and let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
