Welcome to the home of Huish Sport, here you will find something for everyone!

If you’re a beginner wanting to stay active and have fun you can get involved with our social sports, for those of you feeling competitive, join a Huish team and be a part of our successful Green Army!

If you want to stay active but perhaps can’t commit to regular training or prefer a relaxed atmosphere, than there are plenty of activities open to you.

These include: Zumba – Futsal – Self Defence – Volleyball – Yoga – Badminton – Girls Only Gym – 3 vs 3 Basketball, Trampolining – Circuits – Table Tennis – Gym Membership

Social Sport sessions take place within the College timetable and after College and are a great way to fill gaps in your timetable, meet new friends, keep fit and have fun! Drop by the Sycamore Sports Hall for the latest timetable or to suggest what you would like to see on offer.

Zumba session

We run a fully functioning gym, open from 8:30am to 5:30pm. The gym has a selection of equipment including cardio equipment and weights allowing you to meet your development needs as you see fit.

You will find a number of suggested work outs available on the wall, great for those looking for a place to start.

You can purchase kit online from our supplier O’Neills and join the Huish Sport family today. Although we will provide playing kit for those representing the College, it is recommended that students purchase shorts and socks (depending on their Sport) as well as any other leisure wear they require.

Physical Education students

GymThe Sycamore Sports Hall is the home of Huish Sport.

The purpose built facility includes a full sized multi sports arena, including a spacious viewing gallery with seating for 100 spectators, changing facilities, a gym and dedicated classrooms for our Sport courses.

The courts are said to be one of the best in the country with state-of-the art camera technology for performance analysis.

We also have a large playing field for outdoor sports and are looking to extend our facilities with a 4G pitch.

Sport students

The Basketball programmes, the development or the performance are really enjoyable. Having games weekly gives you a relief from general work and helps you meet other people from around college. Doing the programme has allowed me to go to the national tournament where we play against teams from all around the country.

I feel as though I’ve made lots of friends through Hockey. Our hockey team has been very successful this season, with our mixed team making it to nationals and our men’s team making it to regionals.

I am really enjoying working with the coaches to develop my performance as well as working with a new group of people, to form a team that works well together and to of course win as many games as possible.

I feel like the Rugby enrichment programme is a great thing to be part of and everyone involved in the team is a great asset and we all get along so well. We train with our coach Mike on a Monday and Tuesday and we compete in games on a Wednesday with optional gym sessions on a Friday. Since September we have been on a few Rugby trips. For example, we have been to Bristol, Plymouth, Western and Exeter and are also travelling to Rosslyn Park which is based in London. After games, Mike always gives us feedback from our game performance and he helps us to work on our weaknesses during training.

The main coach, Chris got me involved with Bristol Bears Rugby Academy. This is a very strenuous program consisting of all the Huish Rugby practices and matches, Bristol Bears training once every 2 weeks and 4 hours of gym per week (1 hour cardio). If you are a keen Rugby player willing to put your time and effort into it, you will reap the benefits whether you are playing to create a Rugby career or for personal enjoyment. We work hard as a team and expect the same from our new teammates coming in the new school year. Overall, we all enjoy our Rugby, work hard for each other and always have fun rain or shine.

I feel Malcolm (Hockey Coach) has hugely contributed to my development in Hockey. He has provided me with great opportunities within College such as, competing in regionals and as we were successful our team were set to travel to nationals in April 2020 to compete. The Huish team has allowed me to de-stress from the pressures of academic challenges. I have enjoyed the success, partly down to the excellent coaching and commitment of the team.
