Tutor Support

You will have a dedicated Progress Tutor whilst at Huish who will support you both with your academic pursuits and your general wellbeing.

Your Progress Tutor will be someone you can speak to, outside of your subject teachers, about any matter related to college, or from your life outside Huish. They will help guide you throughout your time at Huish.

You will also have weekly group tutorials where we will cover topics related to progression, health and wellbeing, study skills and monitoring and reflection and you will have time to complete independent study.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Multilingualism is an asset. However, if English is not your first language you may find it frustrating if your proficiency in English impacts your learning.

We provide additional support for EAL learners including the opportunity to study English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or English Functional Skills alongside your Study Programme.

These can be used as a stepping stone to GCSE English or serve as a qualification in their own right.

Additionally, you can be referred for an EAL assessment, to build a profile of your language background, strengths and weaknesses, challenges and helpful strategies. You may also attend weekly English support sessions, with a focus on using English for academic purposes.

All staff receive training in best practice for EAL students and will use a wide range of strategies in lessons to support you.
