Governor Vacancy

Volunteer application and disclosure form

Location : Taunton, Somerset

Further enhance our community by offering your skills and experience

Would you like to play a key role in helping Huish enhance its position as a high quality education provider?

Huish is a group of six educational organisations based in Taunton that spans primary, secondary and further education committed to delivering exceptional education for all. We have an enviable reputation in the local area built upon a long history of excellence.

These organisations work closely together in order to provide a wide range of opportunities to ensure that all students maximise their potential and develop aspirations beyond their expectations. All our organisations are guided by a set of core values that clearly set out the expectations for all members of our community including our Church Schools.

The ambition is for all the organisations within Huish to retain their individual autonomy in order that they can best serve their local communities whilst also benefitting from the collective advantages of working closely with other likeminded partners.

Why do we need Governors and Directors?

These roles are concerned with driving issues at strategic level. You will bring an outside perspective to the running of the educational groupask the what, why, how and when of our leadership teams, with an independent mind-set. Their skills as educators will be complemented by your skills, which can originate from a wide range of professions and life experiences.

Vacancies

We are seeking innovative and dynamic individuals who will share in our vision and help us deliver our ambitions. Whilst we consider applications from individuals from all backgrounds we are particularly keen to hear from people with skills, experience and expertise in the following areas:

  • strategic performance data monitoring, managing programmes of study and staff in a FE or HE context, an understanding of the wider educational sector.

We actively promote equal opportunities and encourage applicants from all sections of the community.

Can you help us make a difference?

The roles are voluntary, although travel expenses will be reimbursed. Time commitment depends on the specific role but it is normally around five scheduled meetings a year with possibly additional committee meetings. These meetings are generally held at the relevant educational institution between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Additional attendance may be required at training sessions and specific strategic planning events.

What’s in it for you?

We will of course be drawing on your talents and experience to the benefit of our students but there are many things that you will gain. Not only will you feel a sense of making a difference to the community but your responsibilities will require you to absorb a wide range of issues, some quite possibly outside of your current experiences and could be a positive step for longer term career development. We are committed to equality of opportunity and diversity and would positively encourage applications from suitably experienced individuals who might be from groups currently under represented.
