Mental health is one of the most pressing issues in society today, and this course is designed to help you understand it from both individual and societal perspectives.
You will explore the fundamentals of mental health, how attitudes have evolved over time, and the strategies that can make a positive difference in people’s lives.
This qualification is ideal if you are interested in careers in mental health, social care, psychology, or related fields. It combines academic study with practical application, preparing you for higher education or employment in a sector where demand for skilled professionals is growing rapidly.
You will study topics such as;
- Fundamentals of Mental Health and the Individual – Understanding mental health conditions and their impact
- Mental Health, Wellbeing and Society – How social factors influence mental health and wellbeing
- Supporting and Promoting Mental Health in Organisations – Strategies for creating mentally healthy environments
- Community-Based Support – Exploring services and interventions that promote wellbeing.
Optional units include:
- Supporting mental health through physical activity
- Creative and outdoor approaches to wellbeing.
As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to):
- GCSE Mathematics grade 4
- GCSE English Language grade 4
- plus three more GCSEs at grade 4
This course is assessed through a combination of exams and internally assessed coursework.
This course opens pathways to university degrees in areas such as:
- Mental Health Nursing
- Psychology
- Social Work
- Counselling and Therapy
You could also progress into apprenticeships or employment in mental health support roles, community services, or wellbeing initiatives.

You are encouraged to get work experience to give you a greater understanding of the topics you learn and demonstrate to future employers evidence of your abilities.
