Richard Huish College students are celebrating yet another incredibly strong set of results after putting tremendous hard work and dedication into their studies, cementing Huish’s reputation as the best Post-16 provider in the South West.
Principal, Emma Fielding, said “The results achieved are remarkable. Our students should be incredibly proud of themselves, and I am delighted by both their academic success and the positive impact they have had on our college through their curiosity, determination and compassion.”
The overall A Level pass rate at Huish is 99%, with a hugely impressive 31% of students achieving an A/A* and almost 60% of students achieving high grades A*-B, significantly above the national average.
At Huish 82% of A Level students gained A*- C grades. Top performers did extremely well across a wide range of courses, with 98 students (over 10%) achieving three or more A*/A grades.
We are particularly delighted that two Huish Fine Art students and five Huish Photography students were individually commended by the exam board as being amongst the very top performing students in the country out of 40,000 entries nationally.
Student results on Extended Diploma Vocational qualifications were equally exceptional, with over 85% of students achieving high grades, with at least one Distinction grade in their profile and 25 students (16%) gaining the very top results of triple Distinction*.
Amongst the many, many exceptional outcomes and progression routes being celebrated are:
- Lewis Canaku (Bishop Fox’s School), and Danidhu Kavisekara, who each achieved an amazing 4 A*s. Lewis is planning a Gap Year followed by University in 2027. Danidhu (The Castle School) will read Computer Science at the University of Warwick.
- Nadine Matull (Bishop Fox’s School, A* A* A*), Evie Titley (Monkton Wood Academy, A* A* A* A), Grace Liang (Monkton Wood Academy, A* A* A B) all secured places at Oxford University to study Law with German Law, Chemistry and Law respectively.
- Zoe Lloyd (A* A* A) studied Law, Sociology and Classics, and is going to study International Human Rights Law at the University of York.
- Twins, Grace (A B B) and Darcy Bulbeck (A* A* A), former Monkton Wood Academy students, are off to study Philosophy and Spanish at the University of Bristol and Bakery and Patisserie Technology at University College Brimingham respectively.
- Zoë Buttivant (Kingsmead School, A* A* A* A) studied French, German, English Literature and Geography, and is off to Emmanuel College, Cambridge to study Modern and Medieval Languages (German and Spanish).
- Erin Wood (The Castle School, A* A* A C) studied Fine Art, English Literature, Environmental Science and EPQ, and has a deferred place to study Set and Costume Design at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
- Katie Driscoll (Holyrood Academy, D*D*D) completed her Health and Social Care Extended Diploma with fantastic grades. She starts a job in October call handling for The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust SWAST and aims to become a paramedic through the degree apprenticeship program.
- Erin Regan (Bishop Foxes, A* A* A B) is excited to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Warwick.
- Max Gillard (Uffculme School, D*D*D*) completed his Uniformed Protective Services Extended Diploma with top grades and is off to join the RAF.
- MJ Sumadsad started her journey at Huish on our Level 2 Pathway and demonstrated amazing resilience and creativity. Having successfully completed Level 2, MJ chose to study Photography, Graphics and Vocational Business, achieving excellent grades in each (A* A* Dist). She is now off to study Fashion Marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University. MJ said “The teachers being amazing for supporting me through this journey especially during my level 2 pathway”. - Kelsey Danao (Pyrland School, Dist Dist B) studied Applied Science, Health and Social Care, and Psychology, and is now off to the University of Exeter to study Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiography)
- Christopher Heydon (Uffculme School, A* A A A) is off to study Mechanical Engineering at Swansea University and aims to eventually working for an automotive company.
The College is not only celebrating outstanding results this year, but also the remarkable range of destinations its students are progressing on to, from Medicine to Mechanical Engineering, Social Anthropology to Bakery and Patisserie Technology.
Huish is particularly proud to have supported students into highly competitive professional pathways, including Medicine, Data Science, Chartered Surveying and Pharmacy apprenticeships. Alexis Bulloso (Pyrland School, A* A A A) has secured a place to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham, while Marco Bee (The Falkland Islands, A* A* A) will progress to Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with Professional Placement at the University of Bath.
A range of Huish students have secured highly competitive Degree Apprenticeships including Ava Sweeting (Huish Episcopi Academy, A A B) gaining a Degree Apprenticeship in Chartered Surveying with NG Bailey and Alexander Gratwick (A A B) has secured a Degree Apprenticeship in Data Science with the Civil Service at The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. Zak Palmer (The Castle School, A A A) is progressing to an Accountancy Apprenticeship with Bishops Fleming, demonstrating the growing appeal of high-quality apprenticeship routes that combine professional employment, nationally recognised qualifications and excellent long-term career prospects.
