Year 2 A Level Mathematics students are taking on an important leadership role this half term through a new peer mentoring programme designed to support Year 1 students as they begin their sixth form studies.

The transition to A Level study can be a significant step, with increased independence, higher academic expectations, and more demanding workloads. To help ease this transition, Year 2 mathematicians will share their experiences and offer practical guidance to students who are new to the course.

Throughout the first half term, mentors will provide encouragement and advice on a range of topics, including effective study techniques, revision strategies, time management, and approaches to tackling challenging mathematical concepts. Having recently navigated the same journey themselves, Year 2 students are uniquely placed to offer relevant and relatable support.

The initiative aims to help Year 1 students build confidence in their mathematical abilities, establish productive study routines, and develop the skills needed to manage their workload successfully. At the same time, it provides Year 2 students with valuable opportunities to strengthen their communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.

By fostering collaboration between year groups, the programme reflects the supportive and inclusive culture of the mathematics department, where students are encouraged to learn from one another and celebrate success together.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these mentoring partnerships and watching both mentors and mentees flourish throughout the academic year.
